DCBS Press Release Regarding Regence 3rd Quarter Rate Filing
3/10/2009
By now, you should have received an email from the DCBS announcing a public comment period for Regence's request for a 19 percent increase in our 2009 individual rates.
This is the first time the DCBS has sent an announcement directly to agents and brokers about the filing and the public comment period. Regence was notified late Friday, and we regret this did not permit us time to send our own advance communication.
Our rate filings are publicly available on the DCBS' web site, but we typically do not announce rate increases to our agent/brokers or members until the final rate has been approved. We will notify you once the 3rd quarter rates have been approved by DCBS
It is important to note that even with the 19 percent rate increase proposed for July 1, 2009, Regence is still projecting a 2009 year end medical loss ratio of 89 percent, and an underwriting loss of at least $12 million for its individual pool. Even with the proposed rate increases, Regence individual rates still remain competitive.
Members may be referred to the DCBS if they wish to provide comments on the rate filing.
If you have questions or concerns regarding the filing, please contact your Sales representative for further assistance.
