Grassroots Tax Message
3/27/2009
Regence is asking for your help in opposing a tax currently before the Oregon Legislature and also requesting that you contact your small employer groups and individual policy holders and urge them to email or call their legislators.
The Governor has proposed a 4% tax on hospital revenue and a 1.5% tax on health insurance premiums to expand coverage for the uninsured. This tax unfairly impacts thousands of Oregonians with individual policies and small businesses who already provide health insurance for their employees while letting self-funded big businesses and unions off the hook.
A coalition of Oregon hospitals, health plans, and a major business association is supporting positive reforms that will expand insurance coverage and help contain health care costs. The coalition believes that any tax to fund health care reform must be fair and broad based. But the Governor’s tax proposal is the wrong plan at the wrong time.
Below is a message to pass along to your small groups and individuals. The message can be cut and pasted into an email to legislators, or used as a script in a phone call. May we count on you to contact them today and urge them to email or call their legislators?
Here is a link so your contacts can find their Oregon state representative and senator. www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/home.htm
