2009 Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon Individual Plan 3rd Quarter Rate and Contract Renewals

Third quarter 2009 rates have been approved by DCBS. Recent media reports state that the rate approval applies to Small Group and Individual plans. The recent rate filing only applies to Regence’s Oregon Individual and Family plans. Regence files rates on a quarterly basis. Members receive one rate adjustment per 12-month period effective on their annual renewal date. The annual rate change will also include any adjustments for age band changes.
For renewing members, the rate adjustment will average 14.7%. The member’s adjustment is based on their plan and age. We have enclosed a revised rate sheet and a sample of the member renewal letter for your reference. Members are also being notified of contract changes that have taken effect.
For new business, July 1st also marks the start of Q3 rate changes. The rate for new business will be increasing an average of 1% from Q2 to Q3. The new rates are effective July 1, 2009.
