For Clark County group plans, prescription deductible will no longer apply to brand medications for insulin and diabetic supplies
September 22, 2011
Effective Oct. 1, 2011, for new groups and upon renewal for existing groups, we'll waive the prescription medication deductible on brand medications for insulin and diabetic supplies such as glucose monitors, needles and test strips. (Please note the medical deductible is not waived for insulin pumps and insulin pump supplies). This change, which arose out of discussion with the Office of Insurance Commissioner, addresses a concern regarding benefit designs that may discriminate against those with conditions for which a generic drug is not available, especially diabetes.
Additional information about this change:
- Self-insured groups are not affected unless the group opts for this coverage.
- Regence HSA Healthplan 2.0SM plans are not affected.
- Regence Preferred, Innova, and Engage Medical Plans, available to 100+ groups, that include customizable Rx deductible amounts. Insulin and diabetic supplies do not apply to any applicable brand formulary and non-formulary deductible unless the deductible applies to both generic and brand medications.
We've sent a mailing that includes a Summary of Changes to groups that previously received documentation for their October renewal.
If you have any questions about this change, please contact your Regence Sales executive.
