Electronic Health Records - Fall 2006
Office of Oregon Health Policy and Research

A survey of Oregon ambulatory practices and clinics was conducted by the Office of Oregon Health Policy and Research during the Fall of 2006 to identify:

  • How many practices and clinicians have adopted Electronic Practice Management (EPM) systems and/or Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • What factors influence adoption
  • Which systems are most in use
  • Which areas have higher adoption rates
  • Reasons for not adopting EHR technology

About the survey:

  • 2,403 surveys were mailed to 2,010 entities
  • 1,190 valid responses were received from 1,168 entities, giving a response rate of 58.1%
  • Practice types included clinician names, clinic/practice names, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Health Systems, Kaiser Permanente, Oregon Health Sciences University
  • Results are shown by organization or clinicians

How many practices have adopted EPM and/or EHR
Oregon Clinicians with EHR, EPM Exceeds the National Estimate*

  • Clinicians with both EHR and EPM:  56.5%
  • Clinicians with only EHR (no EPM): 1.6%
  • Total clinicians with EHR:  58.1%
  • Clinicians with EPM only: 27.1%
  • Clinicians with no EHR and no EPM:  14.8%
  • National estimate EHR implementation: 23.9%
